trouble |

I loaded both these programs and could not open MS Word afterwards. I had some difficulty with online help but eventually was advised to uninstall by McAfee. To do this was actually very difficult following the instructions given and I still have residue material from it. It is also impossible to restore the hard disc leaving me no choice but to reformat the hard disc to get rid of this contaminant. I could not advise buying it. Save your money.

I asked for my money back |

I bought this directly from McAfee. Theyre either unable or unwilling to ship a hardcopy. Maybe if you get the software from somewhere else the following wont apply. I was unable to download either of the two products here. Their support is appalling. Whilst they tantilisingly offer "phone", "chat" and "email" support theyre all useless. The phone support people never called me back, the chat support required waiting over 4 hours (despite them advising it would be up to 1 hour because of heavy volumes) at which point they simply talk you though the stuff thats on the web site anyway, when that runs out they tell you to reboot (always a sign that theyve given up and cant think of anything else) which means you lose the chat and have to wait another 4 hours if you want to try again. When I finally got a response from email (after 48 hours) they just told me to try the chat. Having debited my credit card immediately they told me it would take 3 weeks to to give me my money back. In summary the software may work - I wouldnt know I couldnt get it - but given the quality of their support Id steer well clear. --End Rant!

Not a good idea |
This has been for me an unuseable product. In my experience, on a totally clean system (Windows 2000 recently re-installed) it failed to start properly after a weeks use. (There may have been conflicts with other software, but as I mentioned all possibilities to MacAfee support, and never got any kind of answer, that isnt, apparently, an excuse that even MacAfee is resorting to.) VirusScan would not automatically uninstall. Re-installation of Virusscan and Firewall Plus failed. Manual uninstall failed. Editing the registry failed. Editing the registry in safe mode failed. After a day -- yes, really--online with MacAfee support, with six -- yes, six -- chats with six different help staff, following their instructions to the letter and getting deeper and deeper into the bowels of the operating system, I can at least say I have cleared some of the junk, but many MacAfee files are still cluttering my registry, undeletably. And I still cant re-install these MacAfee products.I can only hope this detritus does not get in the way of the rival product I shall attempt to install tomorrow. A quick search of Google suggests this is not in the least an atypical experience.
